The Danish Disability Counsel aim to create a society in which people with and without disabilities have equal opportunities

Whether people have a visual impairment, an autism diagnosis, are blind, have walking difficulties or a mental illness, or use a wheelchair they should have the best possible conditions for living an independent life, unfolding their potential, pursuing their dreams, and contributing to society and the community. Our goal is a society with room for everyone, where everyone sees the person – not the disability.

In today’s society people with disabilities face challenges in a variety of situations. Housing conditions, transportation, access to education and employment and social communities are just some of the areas that can be particularly difficult for people with disabilities. The 17 members of the Danish Disability Council deal with all the different conditions that affect people with disabilities. It enables the council to find good and well-founded solutions to how society and social communities should be organized to ensure the best conditions for people with and without disabilities to participate on equal teams.

What we do:

We advise politicians, authorities and organizations on how they can improve conditions for people with disabilities and we do in general work to influence decisionmakers.

We recommend specific policy actions.

We comment on legislation which influence people with disabilities.

We conduct informational and political campaigns.

We tech and educate relevant, key parties in the field through presentations and lectures.

We participate in all relevant debates about disability.

The Danish Disability Counsel and The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities specifics people with disabilities should be able to take part in society to the same amount as people without disabilities. The Danish Disability Counsel is assigned to assess and evaluate weather Denmark is in line with its obligations to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Therefore, we follow the development of the conditions for people with disabilities in Denmark.
